I may have sighed or I might not have heard it clearly when Farrell first glided across the screen in a royal blue Donegal roll-neck sweater over a charcoal gray striped cardigan. I’d also cut off my own fingers if it meant I could slip gloves on Gleeson’s black coat fluttering in the chilly Atlantic winds. But of course, the real pièce de résistance is the ribbed red sweater with a Peter Pan collar style worn by Farrell in the middle of the film. By this point in the movie, I just want to drool. To begin with, my apologies to the people of Ireland: I confess that I really didn’t realize that The Banshees of Inisherin was a historical drama until I was sitting in the cinema, popcorn in hand and witnessed Colin Farrell riding in a cart. I thought to myself that this might have been a deliberate choice by director Martin McDonagh: The film’s folklore, fanciful-realistic tone lends the film an air that exists outside of time and place. point, while Inishmore’s filming location continued. The Aran Islands have a sort of unchanging landscape, the ends of the earth barely changing in the roughly a century since the movie’s setting. (Or maybe I’m an idiot. In fact, almost certainly am.)
